Pallet Recycling Program

At GreenCycle Pallets, recycling is not an afterthought—it is the foundation of everything we do. Our Sunnyvale recycling facility processes thousands of end-of-life pallets every week, transforming them into valuable secondary products and keeping wood waste out of California landfills. When a pallet can no longer be repaired or resold, we ensure it begins a new life in another form, closing the loop on the wood supply chain and protecting the forests of the Bay Area.

The Recycling Process

1

Collection & Sorting

Damaged and end-of-life pallets arrive at our Sunnyvale yard via our own fleet or customer drop-off. Each pallet is inspected and sorted: repairable units go to the repair line, while truly end-of-life pallets move to the recycling station. We separate pallets by wood type (hardwood vs. softwood) and check for contaminants like paint, chemicals, or non-wood fasteners.

2

Dismantling & De-Nailing

Automated band-saw dismantlers break pallets into individual boards and stringers. High-powered magnetic de-nailers strip every fastener, and the recovered nails are sent to a metal recycler. Usable boards are set aside for the repair line; the rest proceed to grinding.

3

Grinding & Screening

An industrial horizontal grinder reduces wood waste to chips in a matter of seconds. Rotating trommel screens sort the output by particle size: coarse chips become mulch, medium chips are earmarked for biomass fuel, and fine material is collected for animal bedding or composting.

4

Quality Control & Distribution

Final products are tested for moisture content, foreign-object contamination, and particle consistency. Mulch, biomass, and bedding are loaded into bulk trailers or bagged for retail distribution. Nothing leaves our facility without meeting strict quality benchmarks.

Where Your Pallets Go Next

🌿

Landscape Mulch

Clean, ground wood chips processed through our industrial grinder and screened to uniform size. Popular with landscapers, garden centers, and municipal parks departments across the San Francisco Bay Area. Every cubic yard of pallet mulch displaces virgin timber harvest.

Biomass Fuel

Wood fiber too small for mulch is dried and compressed into biomass fuel pellets. These pellets feed industrial boilers and co-generation plants, converting waste wood into renewable energy and displacing fossil-fuel consumption in the Bay Area grid.

📦

New Pallet Stock

Salvageable boards and stringers are de-nailed, re-machined, and fed back into our repair and custom manufacturing lines. This closed-loop process reduces our need for virgin lumber by an estimated 35 % and keeps perfectly usable wood in productive service.

🐴

Animal Bedding

Kiln-dried shavings produced during the re-milling process are collected and packaged as equine and livestock bedding. California farms and stables rely on this cost-effective, sustainably sourced material as a direct substitute for freshly harvested wood shavings.

Certifications & Compliance

GreenCycle Pallets holds all required California DEP permits for wood-waste processing and is a proud member of the National Wooden Pallet and Container Association (NWPCA). Our recycling operations comply fully with local stormwater, air-quality, and solid-waste regulations.

We also provide sustainability certificates for every recycling engagement, giving your business documented proof of environmental stewardship for ESG reporting, LEED certification, and corporate social responsibility programs.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What pallets can be recycled through your program?

We take broken, odd-size, and mixed-grade pallets; repairable units are refurbished, the rest are mulched or repurposed.

Do you provide dock sweeps and regular pickups?

Yes—one-time sweeps and scheduled pickups keep your dock clear without storing scrap pallets.

How do you ensure pallets avoid landfill?

We prioritize repair and reuse; unusable wood is chipped for mulch, bedding, or biofuel.

Can we earn credit for recyclable pallets?

Qualifying pallets generate buy-back credit that offsets new purchases or services.

Do you supply documentation for sustainability reporting?

We can provide diversion tonnage and recycling summaries for ESG and waste reports.
